Our Days are Numbered so what you going to do about it?

Do you believe that statement? Do you believe that God ordained a certain number of days starting from the day you were conceived? What are you doing with them?

Perspective

I saw this image and loved it. I truly love the statement. I suspect it’s because I’m not a young person any longer. I’m not old either. I’m older.

Now let’s get into that you can’t get more time. It kind of suggests the clock started running pretty early and that each day that goes on is a day closer to home. Agree?

Psalm 39:4 NLT - "LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered- how fleeting my life is.
Psalm 90:12 TPT - Help us to remember that our days are numbered, and help us to interpret our lives correctly. Set your wisdom deeply in our hearts so that we may accept your correction.

Suppose you disagree; we have Bible verses that offer a different perspective. However, the question remains: are we merely God’s puppets? Does God control everything? Are we actively living, or is life happening to us?

No, He does not. Adam and Eve had free will and made different choices, changing their course. Like them, we make decisions that determine our direction. But what influences us in making those decisions?

I’ve been journaling for years, and many entries on this site originate from that journal. It captures my experiences and thoughts throughout various life stages.

I’ve realized that I spent time not fully embracing my life. While I enjoyed aspects of those times, I could have appreciated them more.

In this current phase, I’ve experienced a transformation or revelation. I feel liberated from things that once held me back. I used to let past actions, experiences, and unmet expectations occupy my mind. You probably do something similar.

Looking back at photos, listening to songs, and reading my journal remind me of the richness of my life. They act as a “feed” for my present life.

The way you respond to this feed depends on your current life stage.

Some people haven’t moved past previous issues or are facing challenging times. It’s interesting to see how they manage it and choose to live their lives. What they allow into their lives regarding past events or current struggles reflects their willingness to open up to something different.

When I was significantly overweight and struggling to find a path to improvement, the journey of weight loss became my main focus. It was truly strange and difficult, actually. Why? Because you have let yourself become so large, and you're trying to find a way not to be like that. When you begin moving in a new direction but let obstacles hold you back, you experience setbacks. These setbacks can trigger feelings of shame, or you might lose confidence in your abilities. Breaking old habits is very challenging, and failure seems to appear repeatedly. Additionally, the very thing you don’t want to focus on becomes your focus, constantly reminding you of where you've allowed yourself to end up. It's terrible!

So, how do you move beyond ... well, the past? Fundamentally, it is a choice. At least, that's what I believe. We need to reach a point where we simply think differently, act differently, or realize we are not defined by our current state, but perhaps informed by it. We need something to remind us that our time here is limited, and what we do with that time is important.

For me, being rooted in God, it became a surrender. It was no longer about me; it was about letting Him guide me. That's when everything changed.

Individuals in my life took action and recognized their potential. Actions open up new opportunities. My relationship with things that once held me back transformed. I chose not to be constrained by them. I embraced myself and understood that trusting in God and being receptive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance would be transformative. It has been and continues to be.

While the “feed” of my life hasn’t altered much, my outlook has. I’m not triggered by things; they’re not hurtful or negative. They’re not reminders of failures.

When I view those pictures, I recognize and value what I’ve experienced. I might not have liked my appearance or what it represented at the time, but I can’t change that. Smiles and love were present, yet the self-love I found when I fully welcomed God into my life was lacking. My past sins didn’t hold me back because I was forgiven, and God needed me to move beyond them as they were obstructing Him. His voice is clearer now than before. I had to surrender to God and step aside.

The key is granting full and true permission for God to unleash His power on you, within you, and through you to fulfill His purpose for you. He has ordained this for you. Invite Him to take charge of what remains of your journey and make it His. After all, you’ve been in control or allowed things to control you for so long. Why not let Jesus take the wheel?

I wish I could have convinced my younger self to appreciate this insight. But I doubt I had the spiritual maturity at that time. Perhaps God needed all that preparation to shape me into who I am now. He used me throughout this process, and the next phase is exciting and inspiring.

So, what about you? You don’t have much time left. Why not dedicate the rest of it to Him? Devote your remaining days to Him. Allow Him to guide, trust, and love you in a way that fills the rest of your life with His peace. Sounds appealing, doesn’t it? Let’s begin with a prayer. (Warning: Be careful, He might take you seriously.)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the signs and messages you send. Thank you for the Bible and its verses that provide us with wisdom. I am thankful for the life I've been able to live, along with all the people and situations. Father, things may not be as I wish, and I am uncertain about what tomorrow holds; still, I trust you, Father. I surrender my future to you, offering it for your will to work through me. I desire to live and engage, but I invite the Holy Spirit to be so present within me that it empowers and guides me. May the rest of my life be dedicated to you. Please, Lord, protect me, my family, and my friends. I offer this in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
