No human could ever come even close to knowing the mind of God

Can we know how God thinks? Do we truly feel like we have it figured out? If not us, then who?

Perspective

“No human could ever come even close to knowing the mind of God.” - not sure who said this.

Exactly! I said that as soon as I read this.

If that is the case, why do we think we can lead people to God, and why is that a good thing? If we don’t know how God thinks, or is this more about, we can’t fully understand God, but what we do understand through Jesus Christ is all we need to know.

I think it is the latter.

The point here is that we can’t outthink God. We are so small and not anywhere close to God's fullness. However, the part that has been revealed to us through Jesus is sufficient to know how to live in this world. Jesus gave us the approach. He then, for a reason we can’t fully explain, eliminated the animal sacrifices that provided some atonement for our sins, agreeing to be murdered by the people of the time most threatened by him.

Jesus, an honest man, a kind man, a man of knowledge, a man on a mission, and a man who walked his talk, came to give us “the truth” about what it means to be in a relationship with the Father. He demonstrated this by showing how He lived his life.

He was never married. He never procreated. He did love, and He was tempted. We don’t know if He was tempted like other men when it comes to lust or the imagery of a beautiful woman. We know several things revealed through the Bible, and we don’t know as much as there was to know. But that also does not matter because our pursuit is God, our Heavenly Father.

The point is that we will never fully know God because we can’t, probably because we never fully understand anyone else except ourselves. That is perfectly fine because we only need to know what we need to know. This helps us live a life that has the chance of being filled with joy, peace, and happiness.

The next part of this is accepting it all. That isn’t to say we shouldn’t seek to grow further and deeper in our relationships. However, we should accept the levels we reach and, if relationships do grow deeper, enjoy that depth.

As children, we think God is the giver of good. As adults, we learn that God is the giver of life. Life has its ups and downs. It’s good and evil. Horrible things happen to people. Unjust, unfair, and every other “un” you could put in front of those things that line up in the “bad” column. It is effortless for some people to focus on that lousy column. It can crowd out the good column. It shouldn’t, though. The good column is a place to go. Again, this isn’t to say we should not accept the lousy column for what it is. It is what it is. However, we have to see our life from both perspectives.

Another essential thing to know is that the past is indeed the past. It informs who we are, but it does not define us.

Now, back to the topic: “No human could ever come close to knowing the mind of God.” I feel so many “Christians” feel they do. They are so certain. They act like they have the formula for getting to a place we call heaven. They even have the bravado that suggests some have not been “saved.” But they don’t know.

Now, here is where I land. I do believe that being saved is a great thing. Focusing on Jesus with an awareness of the Holy Spirit to guide us seems to unlock joy and the ability to focus on the good parts of your life while accepting the not-so-good parts. But since God is so much bigger, Jesus demonstrated kindness to all and pointed in a relationship with the Father; we don’t know if you don’t go down this path, it leads you to an eternity of bad. We know that Jesus provided us with instructions, was a model of how to live, taught us an approach to getting into a relationship with God, and gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit. This formed into churches that do their best to help us know Him and the approach He shared. They set up opportunities for us to worship God, get real-world ideas, and live aligned with how Jesus taught.

This is all so very good; however, no one should believe they have God figured out. Jesus is a solid example and a highly recommended model for living a life that our God, our Father in Heaven, wants for us. But accepting others who disagree with us but live in a way that seems to be good isn’t so bad. It does not guarantee they won’t be in good standing with God, and we have no real say. God is the judge. It is His way, not ours. I do know Jesus said the way to the Father is through Him. I am just hoping that God is even bigger than that.

Buddhist, Muslim, and any other ancient religion that guides people to love, giving acts of charity, and reverence for God, the Father; I can’t see that being incorrect. It is not for me to judge. As I wrote, that is for God.

What I should be is a guide to how I wander through this life, a model for others who are "wandering" as well. Others can reach the point of acceptance, which can be transformational. My point is only this: we cannot outthink God or fully understand Him. We should find a model; mine is Jesus and live as close to that one as possible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for this revelation. Jesus, the model I prefer to aspire towards, for being so significant yet willing to be present with me. I do not know your plan or the why behind it all, but I am finding myself in a place of acceptance. I look forward to living out the purposes you have for my life, and when you do call me home, I sincerely hope I lived this life you gave me in a way you find acceptable. That you allow me to have eternity in your service with the love and joy that comes with it. You have given me a life filled with love and joy. You have given me abundance and paid close attention to me throughout. You have held, helped, instructed, and coached me. Your love is so far beyond what I can imagine but that which I can I truly appreciate. Living this life in the circle of light that is you is where I always want to be. Thank you for pulling me out of the darkness of my past and bringing me to this very moment and awareness. I love you, Father. I love Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Please forgive me for my sins. Heal my hurts. Use me in the ways you need me and offer me those glimpses to know I live according to your will. Thank you for my life, Father. I pray all this in Jesus's name, my savior and Lord. Amen.
