Are we thankful enough?

Every beat of our hearts is a gift. Agree? Everything in this world is God created. Agree?

Ephesians 5:20 NIV - always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection

Do you thank God? How often? For what?

Let’s face it. We are surrounded by incredible things. We live at a time when innovation has been very fruitful and what we can experience is truly amazing.

Just think about the device in your hand. It probably has a beautiful screen, stays powered on most of the day, plays music, shows you pictures or videos, and allows you to read what you are reading right now. Amazing. Did you thank God for it? What about what you heard or saw?

When I write I often have a cup of coffee close by. When I cook there is no doubt glass of wine, whiskey, or some kind of cocktail. Plus there will be music playing or I’ll be talking with someone. Did I thank God?

You just got hugged by a child or a close friend. Did you thank God?

You are driving your car and someone cuts you off. Did you thank God?

You get my point I think. We have plenty of moments in our lives to be very thankful. But are we really? Do we just take it for granted or do we make time to worship and thank God for all He has created and provided?

There was a time during the 40 years in the desert that the freed slaves of Egypt grew tired of what God was providing for them. After all, they lived in a desert, ate and drank the same things day in and day out. Life probably got a bit familar and kind of boring. They couldn’t see an end in site and some wanted more than what was being provided. Did they thank God?

So what’s the point here?

Well let’s just say Paul’s words about giving thanks to God should never get old for us. We should always thank God each and every day of the life we have. While we might not be where we want, have all that we had hoped for, have something just not going right we still need to thank God. But why?

Well, a sh!t show is a sh!t show. No doubt we can sit and compare ours to each other however, when we are in one it doesn’t really matter. That said, we should know things can be worse. But can they really? What could be worse than what you are going through right now?

For many of us who can walk, talk, see, smell, hear, and feel that should be a starting point. There are plenty who can’t. If you live inside of dwelling, have food to eat, warmth or coolness, and indoor plumbing that’s another. Since you seem to have a device to read what you are reading well that’s worthy of thanks for sure!

Heck you get the point. We are never thankful enough to God. But let’s just do what we can to be more thankful today than we were yesterday. Agree?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you. Just plain and simply thank you. I could not list all the blessing you have provided me or even try to create that list. Why? Because I would miss something that I should be greatful for. So God, simply and boldly, thank you for all of it! You have been so wonderful to me and I will do my best to give you praise as often as I can. I pray this in the name of Jesus my Savior and Lord. Amen.
